For our four quarters of service there are four corresponding elements: Kinard community, local community, global community and applying our learning of global back to local.

Kinard Community: We organized the Kinard Karnival, in which we hosted over 2000 people. Outside there are food stands, a magic show and live music and dance performances. Inside there are over twenty games in classrooms: the Cake Walk, Rubber Ducky Toss, Minute to Win It, Toliet Paper Toss, Donut Dangle and many more. In the gym were games such as an Obstacle Course, Hockey Shoot, and Football Throw. Throughout the school there are balloon artists, face painting stands and local vendors. The money we profit goes to whole school events, school grants and building up the Global Leadership program and scholarship fund.

Local Community: For the local community, we visited the High Plains Environmental Center. They grow food and donate it to the Larimer County Food Bank. Check their website for more info: http://www.suburbitat.org/. For our service project, we harvested tomatoes, beans, and learned about the seasonal cycle using pumpkins. Pretty cool way to learn about the solar system. We then ran the school food drive in conjunction with Cans Around the Oval at Colorado State University. We will revisit the farm in the spring to help plant for the next year.

Global Community: For our global piece, we spent 10 days in Costa Rica. In Costa Rica we did 2 main service projects. One of the projects was painting several school rooms in an impoverished school. Not only did we get to work with local students, we got to learn about their school system and cafeteria. We were really interested in what they provided students compared to what we have in our cafeteria. There were no cheeseburgers anwhere to be seen! We were served a plate of delicious beans/rice/chicken and salad. Our second big project was cleaning up a section of the beach in Ostional. The point of cleaning the beach was to make it a safer environment for the turtles that nest on the shore. We learned a great deal about plastics over the course of our trip and decided to bring that back to our local community.

Global to Local: We were so intrigued about plastics that we decided to educate our populace about the dangers of single-use plastics. We are contributed to the bigger global issue--even right here in Fort Collins. We divided into several committees and working on various projects. We have a group making signs from old bottlecaps--a "rethink" campaign. Another group is working on a plastic analysis of our plastic bottle use at lunch. One group is working on collecting old tshirts to make "go" bags that are non-plastic. We have students working on creating this Wiki in order to show our learning to others, and students working on videos for the school. Check it out below:
