    Program Information

Global Leadership is a select group of 8th grade students from Kinard Middle School. We were selected through an application process by our teachers, Chief (Ms Ryan) and Coach (Mrs Herrick). Throughout the year we do four quarters of service. Check out our "Four Quarters of Service" link on the side. If you are interested of applying for a spot in the class during your eighth grade year, wait for an upcoming announcement from Mrs Herrick or Ms Ryan! Applications go out at the end of April with elective packet choices.
We are a group focused on learning and serving the community. At the beginning of the year, we organized the Kinard Karnival, a huge school event. We housed over two thousand people, with food, games and tons of fun. During the year we took a field trip to a local sustainable farm, the High Plains Environmental Center. We learned more about conservation, sustainable farming, giving to the local food bank and growing our own food. This has sparked a passion in us that we are waiting to ignite. Keep checking the wiki for updates!! In February of this year, we took a 9-day trip to Costa Rica, a leading country in conservation. We spent nine days together as a group, learning about the culture and working together. We visited a University in the middle of the forest, went ziplining, kayaked on a lake, hiked through the rainforest, painted a local elementary school and rescued tons of baby sea turtles. These experiences have brought us together, more than a regular classroom experience could. After our trip, we are planning a service project to help make our community a better and greener place.

ServiceIf One Trip Could Change Your Life… Would You Take It?
At Global Explorers, we are dedicated to creating moments that challenge students’ perspectives of the world and inspire them to be a part of making it a better place…to become responsible global citizens.
We invite students and educators worldwide to join us on a journey—a journey to ask big questions, to ponder our place in our communities, country, and ultimately the world. We’ll explore the environmental and social circumstances of some of the most beautiful places on Earth as we focus on science, service, culture and leadership. This is no ordinary travel experience! We’ll get our hands dirty; we’ll overcome personal challenges; we’ll learn, grow and laugh along the way, and ultimately, we’ll walk away changed.
What is a Responsible Global Citizen?
A responsible global citizen continually explores the complexity and interconnectedness within our world, emerging as a self-aware servant leader who strives to make the world a more equitable, sustainable place now and for generations to come.
